TN Poor ranking in Farm Sector reforms

Tamil Nadu ranked very poor in the farm sector reforms index.

About the index :

The NITI Aayog recently released the Agricultural Marketing and Farm Friendly Reforms Index.

As per the Index, Maharashtra ranked first, Gujarat ranked second and Rajasthan ranked third among states.

Tamil Nadu excelled in food grain production in the last five years and received Krishi Karman Award.

ODF status

Under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), The State of Kerala has become the third State overall and the largest State so far to be declared Open Defecation Free (ODF).

Key facts :

Freedom from open defecation has been proven to lead to significant health benefits in terms of incidences of water-borne diseases, especially in children, and provide safety and dignity for all, especially women and senior citizens.

Previously Sikkim and Himachal Pradesh were declared ODF.

Background:

The Swachh Bharat Mission, launched in October 2014, consists of two sub-missions – the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) (SBM-G), which will be implemented in rural areas, and the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), which will be implemented in urban areas.

Crown of Miss Earth

Katherine Elizabeth Espín from Ecuador has won the crown of 2016 Miss Earth at the Mall of Asia Arena, Philippines.

She competed with 83 delegates from around the world for the prestigious beauty title with the theme “Empowered to make a Change”

Sampriti – 2016

India and Bangladesh jointly conducted The joint military training exercise “Sampriti-2016” at Tangail, Dhaka, Bangladesh from 05 to 18 November 2016.

The training will jointly practice a Counter Terrorist Operation in a controlled and simulated environment.
